Lowe sets American record in high jump
05-30-2010
INDIANAPOLIS - 2010 World Indoor bronze medalist Chaunte Lowe set the American record in the women's high jump Sunday at the 21st Lausitzer International Athletics Meeting in Cottbus, Germany.
A three-time USA Outdoor champion, Lowe cleared 2.04m/6-8.25 to win the women's high jump and break the 22-year old American record. The previous record of 2.03m/6-7.75 was set by Louise Ritter back in 1988. Lowe came into the competition at 1.81m/5-11.25 and jumped at every height in the progression. After a first attempt clearance at 2.01m/6-7, Lowe needed two attempts to clear 2.03m/6-7.75 before moving the bar up to 2.04m/6-8.25. It was on her third and final attempt that Lowe was able to clear 2.04m and claim the American record.
