Adelaide Aquilla, Divine Oladipo and Sade Olatoye have made The Ohio State University the only women's program in the country this year with three athletes qualifying for the shot put final at the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships on June 9-12 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. They join DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss their preparation for that event June 10, in addition to Olatoye competing in the hammer throw earlier that day, as well as Aquilla and Oladipo participating in the discus throw championship June 12. Oladipo, a British athlete and transfer from the University of Connecticut, reflects on placing 12th in the 2018 shot put final at Hayward Field and her anticipation for seeing the renovated stadium and representing the Buckeyes in her return to the championship meet. Olatoye and Aquilla examine how much they have developed and improved since finishing third and 12th at the 2019 shot put final in Austin, Texas, and their quest for all three Buckeyes to earn All-America first-team honors, which has only been achieved at the Division 1 final by South Carolina (1997), UCLA (1993 and 1991), and Washington (1988). Olatoye, the 2019 indoor weight throw champion, analyzes her evolution as a well-round thrower, having not competed in the hammer or weight prior to college, with Oladipo sharing her pride in being able to elevate the discus at Ohio State following her arrival. All three student-athletes express their gratitude for the tireless work, commitment and dedication of Buckeyes' throws coach Ashley Kovacs, and how she has mentored each one of them to become better athletes and ambassadors for the Ohio State program. Olatoye, who also competes for Nigeria, shares the motivation for the throwers to support the performances of Anavia Battle, Emma Nwofor and the 4x100 relay in an effort to Ohio State to challenge for a team podium finish. Aquilla, the reigning Division 1 indoor shot put champion, explains how meaningful it would be to add an outdoor title and be represented on the awards podium with her teammates. All three athletes speak about their competition plans following the NCAA meet, with Aquilla remaining in Oregon for the Olympic Trials, Oladipo competing at the British Championships and Olatoye participating in the Nigerian Trials and African Games.
