Gators Cap NCAA East Preliminary with Nine More Eugene Qualifiers

Published by Florida SID on May 28th, 2016

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida track and field program earned another nine NCAA Outdoor Championships berths on Saturday's (May 28) closing night of competition at the East Preliminary, bringing their three-day total to 25.

Sophomore shot put thrower Lloydricia Cameron started the day for the Gators with a fourth-place finish, becoming the first Gator since Keely Medeiros (2011) to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the event. Cameron is also the first UF underclassman to qualify since Medeiros' sophomore campaign (2010).

The men's and women's triple jump each produced a national qualifier for the Gators.

With his fifth-place finish on the men's side, KeAndre Bates became just the sixth underclassman since 2010 to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in both horizontal jumps. Bates also joined Marquis Dendy (2012) and Christian Taylor (2010) as the only UF underclassmen since 2002 to accomplish that feat.

For the women, Yanis David posted the No. 4-ranked mark on the program's all-time outdoor top 10 (13.33 meters) to take ninth place and secure her place in Eugene. Moreover, David joined Ciarra Brewer (2012) as the only other Gator freshman to qualify for NCAA Outdoor Championships triple jump since 2002.

Yanick Hart climbed UF's all-time outdoor top 10 as well. The Jamaican finished the 110-meter hurdles in 13.58 seconds, the No. 5-ranked time in program history, and took fourth place to book his second consecutive trip to Eugene.

Taylor Tubbs capped the individual events with a fourth-place finish in the 5,000 meters to become the first Gator since Genevieve LaCaze (2009) qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the event.
